This dinar is not in line with the chronology proposed by Ja‘far, who assumed that the caliphal heir was only nominated in 488 H and also the change of Berkyarüq‘s laqab from Mu‘izz ad-dawla to 'Adud ad-dawla followed only the nomination. The date on our coin is very clear. Therefore it seems more likely that the disturbing date of our coin was result of a reuse of an old obverse die rather than proposing that Ja‘far‘s types S.MS 488 A and B were both struck with old reverse dies.
